Improving youth & family mental health in Idaho (2021-ongoing)

Tyler is currently working in his home state of Idaho with the St Luke’s Health System, elected leaders, and community partners in the locales of Nampa, Boise, Twin Falls, and the region where he grew up, the Wood River Valley/Blaine County.

CEO Alliance for Mental Health (2020-ongoing)

Tyler co-founder alongside co-founder NAMI CEO Dan Gillison Jr. and is now Director of the CEO Alliance — partnering with leaders of 15 trailblazing mental health and well-being focused organizations to chart a new course for mental health in the U.S. This coalition represents some of the most vulnerable and diverse populations affected by disparities in the nation, and collaborates to identify and amplify priorities for creating a future of quality whole person care for all who need it. The Alliance focuses on early intervention, accessible care and effective paths to recovery. As outlined in the seven pillars of the Unified Vision, the group is committed to working with federal, state, and local governments to improve care infrastructure, increase access to resources and break down barriers to care.

Federal Reserve Bank of NY, Visiting Scholar (2022-ongoing)

Tyler is engaged as a Visiting Scholar with the New York Fed to investigate more effective leveraging of bank CRA investing, integrated with healthcare Community Benefit investing and application of anchor approaches, along with other community resources and structures to deliver sufficient dose for measurable impact at a population level.

Mindful Philanthropy (2020-ongoing)

Mindful Philanthropy was founded in 2020 by CEOs from Peg’s Foundation, Well Being Trust, Scattergood Foundation, and The John Heller Fund to catalyze impactful funding in mental health, addiction, and well-being. MP provides strategic guidance, and convenes funders around cutting-edge investments in well-being. Tyler is an ongoing board member.

Inseparable (2020-2022)

Inseparable is a 501.c.4 policy organization and a growing coalition of people from across the country who share a common goal to fundamentally improve mental health care policy — to take care of ourselves, our loved ones, and our communities. Tyler was a founding seed funder when at Well Being Trust.

WIN Network & Well Being Alliance (2018–2022)

Tyler was visionary co-founder and initial seed-funder of the Well Being In The Nation (WIN) Network, a fast-growing consortia of organizations and communities joining forces to advance inter-generational well-being and equity for all in the United States. He was also founding convener of the Well Being Alliance– recently integrated with the WIN Network, comprised of dozens of leading organizations committed to demonstrating shared principles, adopting common measures, and advancing a social movement for investment, policy and practice changes that can achieve population-level health outcomes. Tyler transitioned from these roles in 2021.

Healthcare Anchor Network (2015-2017)

Tyler was co-founder (with Ted Howard) and initial convener of this powerful national collaboration of over 50 leading healthcare systems building more inclusive and sustainable local economies. HAN helps health systems and partners more rapidly and effectively advance an anchor mission approach (increased local hiring, purchasing, and impact investing) in the communities they serve. Community Commons and IP3 (2008-2012)

Tyler was founding board chair of IP3, the social enterprise that gave birth to the Community Commons, a data mapping, tools and stories platform that helps civic leaders across sectors and perspectives inspire change and improve community outcomes.

Convergence Partnership (2006-2007)

Tyler was the founding director of what became the leading consortium of US philanthropies, health systems and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, working to foster healthier and more equitable environments for all children and families. To this day, the Partnership convenes and invests at the intersection of systemic issues to advance healthy people and healthy places through joint action and policy and practice changes.

Abraham Path Initiative (2006-2008)

Tyler became the first Executive Director of this international NGO, after joining the initial discovery tour from Harran (Turkey) to Hebron (Palestine) that also traversed Syria, Jordan and Israel. The ‘Masar Ibrahim Al-Kahlil’ inspires people worldwide through stories, walking and hospitality along the ancient path of Abraham. The route is a platform for deepening understanding, experiencing cultures, and fostering friendships - and helps build a world that has moved beyond fear and hostility to hope and hospitality.

Community Initiatives & Workforce Engage™ (1995-2008)

Tyler was the founding President and CEO of this leading US consultancy that has helped produce improved outcomes in hundreds of locales around the US and globally. CI also founded and then spun off a healthcare technology start-up: Workforce Engage™, dedicated to driving clinical quality, patient safety and enhanced employee experience. Community Initiatives remains a network of curious and committed souls, co-creating communities marked by a sense of belonging, stewardship and willingness to act for the common good.

Kuhiston Foundation (1992-2008)

Before the fall of the Soviet Union, Tyler founded the Kuhiston Foundation, in Dushanbe, Tajikistan (Central Asia) and served as its initial board chair. Kuhiston (abode of the high mountains) was formed to help start Tajikistan's national park system (est. 1993), retain its scientific and educational leadership, and grow its micro-finance institutions. Later it helped draft portions of the post-Soviet Tajik constitution relating to international NGO's, while becoming a leading force for healthy ecosystems in Central Asia. The governance work of the Kuhiston Foundation is now reflected in the mission of dozens of INGO’s serving in the region. Its youth and protected areas work is embedded in the Tajik Academy of Sciences and other ministries.

Step Denver (1984-1988)

Tyler was the founding board chair of this residential recovery community that helps men overcome the consequences of addiction and rebuild their lives through sobriety, work, and accountability. The ultimate goal of Step Denver is to have its residents transition to safe, sober living environments where they may become productive, contributing members of their communities. 40 years after its co-founding with Ray Hayworth, Kathy Ellis, and Bob Cote - Step Denver still is still serving on the streets of Denver.
